Organisational Structure at the District Level

The District Industries Centres Programme was started on 1^st May 1978 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme to assist Tiny, Cottage and Village Industries sector in the country and to generate larger employment opportunities in the rural and backward areas. The Office of the Development Commissioner (SSI) finally transferred the DIC schemes to the State with effect from 1994.

Objective : The DICs are the District Level Functionary of the State Directorate of Industries wherein all the services and support required by village and small entrepreneurs are envisaged to be provided under s Single Roof. The Centres are in operational mechanism for according sanction and other facilities for setting up industries in rural areas and ensuring their viable operation by developing close linkages with Rural Development Blocks on the one hand and with specialised and developmental institutions on the other.

Staffing Pattern : The District Industries Centre is headed by a General Manager who is to be assisted by Functional Managers (F.Ms)/ Asstt. Director of Cottage Industries (ADCIs), Project Managers (PMs) and Industrial Promotion Officers (IPOs) / Asstt. Industries Officer (AIOs).

Coverage : The District Industries Centres have been set up in each district of the State under a phased programme. The total number of D.I.Cs. stands at 7 Nos, one each in the 7 (seven) Districts of Meghalaya as shown below:-
